In May a team of 10 individuals will join me on a trip to Spain to learn first hand about the Mondragón Cooperatives in May of 2011. This trip came about because in December of 2011, I was awarded The Chicago Community Trust Fellowship for Experienced Leaders to study and document the worker cooperatives as a potential economic development model and self-sufficiency strategy for low-income youth who are coming out of juvenile detention, have dropped out of or expelled from school.
Our group will travel to visit the Mondragón Cooperatives in Spain on May 14, 2011. There we will participate in a five day training from May 16th until May 20th as well as fellowship and engage in dialogue about the potential for replication in under-served communities and among hard-to-employ populations.
